End of the year thank you - 2020
JUNE 16, 2020 TUESDAY
On the behalf of ET GROW club officers,
We know this might be a little late, but we would like to thank everyone who has supported us from the start of the club up until now. We are so happy that you have been a part of our group to participate in different learning and volunteer opportunities. Although we had planned to start our garden at La Madera Elementary School and roll out more plant-based school lunches throughout the district, our club's activities had to be put on hold due to all that has happened this school year in 2020. We are so sorry that you guys did not have the opportunity to participate in events that we had planned. This coming fall, if school permits, we will start the construction of the garden in the beginning of the school year when students are able to learn on campus and resume our plans for activities that had to be cancelled.
With summer break finally starting, we now have more time to reflect and focus on issues to continue the fight for justice-- not only for our environment, but the Black Lives Matter(BLM) Movement, the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and many other issues that have been especially highlighted this year during the numerous events leading up into the summer quarantine today. This serves as a reminder that it is up to us as individuals to stay informed with the news and be active in these ongoing movements. From protesting, sharing posts online, signing petitions, donating to organizations, self-reflection, individual education, keeping our relatives in check, having difficult conversations with friends, and changing lifestyle habits, there are so many ways for everyone to be an active citizen in the world's ,mission to create a more kind, happy, and peaceful world.
Our privilege as an American citizen is often overlooked by our own everyday responsibilities. We forget to appreciate the resources and rights we have to live the way we do. We must not neglect suffering of others even when times for us become difficult. There is so much work that has yet to be accomplished, but the first step in the process is acknowledging there are underlying problems in the first place. Even though this year may be a pivotal moment in our history, these issues have been inherently prevalent over the past few centuries. The death of George Floyd was the breaking point for the BLM movement which has-- for the past few months-- brought up several issues that seem to have been ignored and put to the side. It seems like people are now actually realizing that equality for all was never really guaranteed after the Civil War. The system is failing us. The United States government created an elaborate system that continues to systemically oppress people of color. We no longer have excuses to ignore these issues when they directly control and impact our lives now. We should use this movement as a catalyst to motivate ourselves to continue the fight for justice for all beings on this planet. As another being on this Earth, taking initiative is our responsibility to ensure our generation and generations after us can live a life free of discrimination and prejudice.
Again, thank you so much for supporting and being a member of our club. We really appreciate everyone's contributions and participation this past year and we hope to continue our work in our local communities with you. :))
